Campus Ambassador Programme

How did this start? Campus Ambassador programmes are common among leading law firms in the United Kingdom. However, in Hong Kong we still seem to be the only law firm (to the best of our knowledge), that runs such a programme, and we are going into the fourth consecutive year now, after having established the programme in the summer of 2021.

Can I join the firm in other roles? One of our first Campus Ambassadors was Kelly Leung, who was studying for the PCLL at the University of Hong Kong at the time, after having completed her LLB at the University of Birmingham. She then joined us on a training contract, which she just completed, and will soon get admitted to the High Court, and we are happy to retain her as our new Associate Solicitor. While these paths are open to our Campus Ambassadors, there is no requirement to join us beyond the programme.

And while most of our Campus Ambassadors join us as interns, they also develop their skills and employability during the programme in such ways that they secure vacation scheme and training contract offers with various other international law firms.

Interested to apply? We are looking for students from all universities and any disciplines to represent Ravenscroft & Schmierer on your campus. You possess excellent communication skills (or a willingness to learn these skills), are proactive and confident in using social media (primarily LinkedIn) and enjoy growing your knowledge and network in the legal field.

Can I learn directly from the lawyers? We have an experienced team of lawyers, qualified in various jurisdictions, such as Hong Kong, England and Wales, Germany and the US. We serve some of the world's largest companies on cutting edge legal solutions, including digital asset regulation and crypto currency litigation, as well as many other areas of law, with a focus on corporate and commercial law. If there is a specific area of law you would like to develop, we are happy to offer you additional opportunities to do so. For example, you could write articles for our newsletter on legal topics that interest you and, should you have availability, you could get involved in some of the work through legal research. Although, the best way to develop those skills, would be by joining us for an internship during or after you complete the programme.

Who will be part of the team? You will be part of a team of up to 10 students from various universities, usually based in Hong Kong and the UK. You will be guided by us throughout the year with a short weekly video call to discuss plans, share progress and check in on each other. Below is an overview of our 2023/24 Campus Ambassadors.

Campus Ambassadors 23-24

What are the requirements? Through our guidance and training, you will become familiar with Ravenscroft & Schmierer and represent our firm on your campus. To do so, you will maintain and manage a social media and events strategy, which is currently mostly focused on LinkedIn and one in-person or online event (whichever works better) during the year. If you are rather new to LinkedIn, we will train, guide and support you to equip you with all the skills you need to perform well. You will also interact with other legal professionals (for example, in the run-up to organising your event) and answer questions from interested students (for which we have templates that can be slightly edited to fit most questions you will receive). The time committment is usually a couple of hours per week, although we do understand that some weeks are busier than others.

Do I need to be from Hong Kong? No, it does not matter where you come from or if you have any prior connection with Hong Kong. Even if you have no intention to develop a career or do an internship in Hong Kong, you are welcome to apply and we are confident that you will enjoy and grow during the programme.

What you gain? You will gain first-hand knowledge and experience of how a leading law-firm operates and significantly improve your communication, commercial awareness and legal skills. You will gain a stronger personal brand and increased employability, as well as a network of experienced legal professionals and like-minded students. We are happy to provide a reference letter and shortlist you for internships with our firm.

What kind of event will I organise? Our Campus Ambassadors in Hong Kong usually organise Open House events at our office in Sai Ying Pun, such as those pictured below. If you are based elsewhere, you can also do an online event, such as this one or this one.
